OOP - Poodle Walk report for April

CURTIN AND SURROUNDS

ATTENDEES:

Lesley with TP's Elle, Surrender and Madison - my crew just love the walks and the off lead fun and the socialisation with all the other poodles. They are just not very good with the non poodles that they encounter. I apologise for their discrimination.

Roz with TP's Maverick and Rocky - My friend Roz volunteered to help out and Maverick and Rocky didn't mind one bit. Fortunately most of the walk was off lead and the boys got plenty of running exercise.

Gaynor with TP Summer - Catherine's friend Gaynor has helped out on a previous poodle walk and is quite an expert now. She was telling me that she walks dogs for the RSPCA and was hoping to walk one on the Million Paws Walk in May.

Catherine with MP Coconut - I didn't hear Coconut being called "Evil" once on this walk so he must have been on his best behaviour. He and Elsie were seen happily playing you can't catch me - from time to time.

Sharon with SP Harry - Harry would have been pleased to see two other white standards on this walk. They are such a sight to see and members of the general public are always very taken with the standards as they present themselves very well. Elsie is the baby of the group but she is so well behaved and thoroughly enjoys the club outings.

Sylvia with TP's Jessie, Jamie and Spock and PP Max - I must say Max gave Sylvia a bit of a scare when we were all at the cafe as he went temporarily missing - however he was found very quickly in a nearby bakery - I guess the aromas were all just too much and he just had to go and investigate.

Christopher with SP Elsie - Elsie is a treasure on the walks now and equally good when socializing at the cafe stops after the walk. She is a great crowd pleaser and children love to come and pat her - she is a great ambassador for the club. In fact we may have recruited a new member as a lady came over and informed us that she had an eight year old black standard male poodle and that she'd like to join and come along to our outings.

Mari with TP's Babette and Andre - It was good to have Babette and Andre bring Mari on the walk as they have been forced to stay in bed on the last two walks. Elsie must have told them what a good time she has had and so they couldn't resist but come along. They both volunteered to help Mari book the tables at the cafe so that the rest of us wouldn't miss out. I must say that Mari's talents are just so wonderful as she brought along the coats that she had made for Surrender and Dixie. Surrender was able to model them for everyone and she just looked fabulous. So with winter approaching Mari can make coats made to measure in any colour or style for your poodle and I can highly recommend them.

Anita and Tim with TP's Rusty and Skitz - it was great to see this foursome back on the walks as they have been very busy renovating their house. The boys are all grown up now having just had their second birthday. They too both love the chance to run off lead and Curtin is one walk where you can safely do this.

Jacqui with SP Toff and PC Sam - These three were walking in a different group to me so I didn't properly catch up until we were chatting at the cafe. The beauty of these walks is that you don't have to be a power walker and you can usually find someone to chat to along the way while your poodle runs and explores new territory.

Walk Report

I was totally surprised and pleased with the great turnout for this walk as I had personally driven through rain, hail and experienced huge thunderclaps in order to get to the meeting place. I'm very sure it prevented some members from coming as the prospects didn't look at all good. However it just goes to show how deceiving and changeable the weather can be because as I approached the North Curtin playing fields the dark skies suddenly became blue and would you believe the sun came out and remained out for the entire two hour walk. So it turned out to be a fantastic walk and thank you to all of the above for taking the risk and attending. I would like to thank my friend Roz and Catherine's friend Gaynor for helping out with some of my crew. It was great to see Anita and Tim back with us with their boys who have turned the big two just recently. It was also lovely to have Jacqui and her two beautiful dogs with us. The majority of us did the entire two hour walk but a few brave souls volunteered to shorten their walk so as to ensure that tables were booked up at the Curtin Cafe - thank you for doing those guys. The majority of the poodles experienced lots of freedom on this walk and nearly enticed a non member poodle to come along with us - its owners had to really persuade it to stay with them. Maverick saw some horses in an adjacent paddock and went charging off like he usually does but as he got nearer I think the penny dropped as to just how big the horses really were and he came charging back equally as fast. The autumn scenery was quite appealing to the humans on the walk but the poodles really enjoyed running back and forth and checking out the occasional neighbourhood dog secured behind see through fences. I'm so glad they were behind fences as some of them looked like pretty good guard dogs.

Sorry to Marisa and MP Koko who I believe had tried to come on the walk but must have just missed us. I will put my mobile number in the newsletter for all future walks - hopefully this should help in case members are running just a tad bit late.

The walk in May will be the RSPCA's Million Paws Walk - details in newsletter. Hope to have a good representation of the club there.

Cheers,

Lesley.
