I recognize the special bond that my clients share with their pets and along with their owners, I value their health and well being.

I understand that your pet has many emotions and I will take into consideration the effect a grooming visit may have on them. Most pets, whilst visiting a grooming salon enjoy their time there and love the attention they receive from their groomers and their happy owners. But I am aware, that some pets, may sometimes suffer from anxiety, nervousness and become a little distressed while visiting a grooming salon. I will nurture and understand your pets feelings and ensure that your pet feels comfortable at all times.

Poodle Antics® is a business and I work hard to achieve a financial living, I will not sacrifice my client's pets well being.

Difficult Dogs
Dogs that show a tendency to bite or jump around may be muzzled or attached to a grooming arm for their safety and mine.  Dogs that are uncontrollable will be sent home and charged for the amount of grooming that has been accomplished. It is not fair or acceptable to force your pet to accept the grooming session.

Puppy Grooming Sessions
It takes time to teach your puppy to trust someone to touch it all over and to groom it. You can help at home by placing the puppy on a small table (the top of the washing machine with a non-slip mat works well) and run your hands over his entire body. Open his mouth, run your hands over his ears, touch his paws and between the pads and run a brush over his coat. Give plenty of encouragement and praise. Always stop the session before the puppy gets bored or naughty and always end with a happy puppy, who is behaving correctly.

These training sessions will also help when the pup has to go to the vet for an examination.

Mat Removal
While I am extremely careful when clipping off excessively matted coats there is a risk of nicks, cuts or abrasions due to warts, moles or skin folds trapped in the mats. Removal of the matting may also reveal skin irritations caused by moisture trapped near the pet's skin allowing mold, fungus or bacteria to grow. Clipping may reveal embedded grass seeds, which may leave puss filled holes in your pet's skin. If this is the case I will point the areas out as it may require a visit to your Vet.

Sometimes I find V-shaped cuts, where owners have tried to remove the coat with scissors.

The after effects of mat removal procedures can include itchiness, skin redness, self-inflicted irritations or abrasions and failure of the hair to re grow. I will spend extra time not to shave right down to the skin as this can make your pet prone to sunburn and you would have to apply sun screen daily or they should be kept out of the sun until the hair grows sufficiently to protect the skin.

In some cases pets may also exhibit brief behavioural changes. This is most often caused by the owner accusing the pet of looking silly and exclaiming "What have they done to you!". Your pet only recognizes your tone of voice and not what you are actually saying and thinks he has done something wrong and goes and hides under the bed.

The owner construes this as the pet not liking what happened to him at the grooming salon.

On very rare occasions the ear leathers may develop bruising when the wads of matted hair are removed. The dog, because his ears feel lighter or strange, continually shakes his head and the leathers knock against the top of his skull and become bruised. This may require vet attention.

As the owner, you are responsible for the condition of your pet's coat and may not hold Christopher responsible in the event of adverse effects of mat removal.

Safety
Safety comes first for everyone during the grooming process, people as well as pets. You must inform me prior to grooming if your pet has bitten someone or has aggressive tendencies. Owners will be held liable for any bites or any property damage caused by their pets. I will stop the grooming process if I feel your pet's behavior is compromising his/her safety or mine. Charges may apply.

Veterinary Care
I make every effort to ensure your pet's grooming is pleasant and safe, however, if your pet becomes ill or if the services of a veterinarian are required, you hereby give me permission to obtain treatment if you are not available to do so and you agree to pay such expenses.
